With the New York City Subway celebrating its 120th birthday, the New York Transit Museum sought to highlight the many facets of the institution: from construction to artwork.

The exhibition title “The Subway Is…” would be repeated in each section, so the koolgirlposse determined that de-emphasizing the repeating phrase in hashed lines and emphasizing the section subject as solid type would drive the bold graphic look of the show. A dark backdrop was selected to offset the bright titles and color coded sections. A combination of murals and repros as well as cases were laid out in the over 2,600 sq ft exhibition.
