New York Transit Museum celebrates 100 years of The New Yorker transportation cartoons
-
With The New Yorker celebrating its 100th anniversary, the New York Transit Museum wanted to highlight the breadth of cartoons created featuring the Subway.
Scrims with large scale New Yorker covers were used to give the space an airy feel while helping with the sense of preview for the other areas of the gallery. Cartoons were framed to remind visitors that the cartoons are art.
To break the grid, the wall were painted in diagonal shapes with light colors – pulled from the feature cover – to imply a sense of dynamism and movement. Cartoon caption quotes as funny as the cartoons themselves were scaled up.
